On this full-day of expeditionary professional learning, you will join members of the Mount Vernon team for deeper learning and connect with expert practitioners through two distinct learning experiences:
Experience how The Mount Vernon School designs relevant, transformational curricular and learning competencies from Preschool through Upper School, explored through an inquiry-based approach and assessed on levels of proficiency.
Each participant will travel with an MV expert on a learning walk, receive instruction and guidance about respective instructional strategies, and debrief with faculty members during lunch. Topics will include Inquiry-based Learning; Learner Agency; Design Thinking; Inter/Multi/Transdisciplinary Learning; Innovative and Flexible Spaces; Personalized and Differentiated Learning; Competency-based Assessment; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and more.
How might we activate learner agency at every stage from early childhood to adulthood? MV faculty will share how we empower learners of all ages to own their learning and apply knowledge to make a positive impact. Topics will include building agency through the Upper School Innovation Diploma, Middle School Impact Design Lab, and Lower School iProject Mini, as well as our systemic Inquiry-based approach and Competency-based assessment practice.
Schedule for Experience Mount Vernon on October 25:
8:00 – 8:15 am: Sign-in and Welcome – Please arrive at 510 Mount Vernon Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30328 and park adjacent to the Upper School Building. (Please note Upper School carpool will be finishing. Allow for extra time.)
8:30 am: Start with Questions Learning Walks across all divisions guided by MV faculty and staff
11:45 am: Lunch and debrief
12:30 pm: Activate Agency Workshop guided by MV faculty and staff
2:30 pm: Depart Mount Vernon
